Dear class 1o1, orientation is over, your life in xinmin is officially started. Opportunities awaits all of you, those that want to join SL needless to explain, leadership opportunities awaits. Those that do not, i hope that you guys would take up leadership roles too in your class or future CCAs. I know its kind of hard to some because certain primary school are quite one tracked. Be open, enthusiastic (most of you already are) and do not let any opportunities slip through.
Throughout the orientation, i'll be frank, each day i see a new 101 and i have mixed feeling as the campfire drew near. It was with excitement that i greeted you guys on friday when all of you were so reserved. Was this class going to be high, or was it going to be silent? Was this going to be such a hard to handle class that i regretted the decision of actually wanting to be a mentor? These questions were on my head as i entered your class, asked Miss Lie for permission to give out your name tags and introduced ourselves. Taking you guys on a school tour was a chance to get to know you guys better. Quietly i observed, even though my voice was shouting across to all of you. Who were going to be those standard kind of kids that all SLs were happy their classes do not have? I was glad that 101 did not have any such person. (I'm not going to point out any specific person) I tried my best to make the tour as fast as possible such that Tsui Yan and I would have a chance to spend some time with you guys. We were crazy, (Tsui Yan is always crazy) trying to pull you guys in a high mood. At the end of the whole day, i proudly went to the other SLs and said, "101
is the class!" The other SLs were apprehensive. You sure? First day only? I was very sure that 101 would be an unforgetable class. Unique in everyway just as my Sec 1 class was.
The week end flew by as we prepared for the next three days. Monday came and as i ran about my business, passing out the ice breakers logistics to 104 to 109, i wondered how you guys would react to these games that we had planned for months. Slightly disappointing that you guys did not like most of the games except for cap talk, nonetheless, i was happy that i could see friendships starting to bond. As the saying goes, each friendship starts with a smile. Campfire preparation in the afternoon, i felt the first signs of irritation. I knew i should have anticipated this. So had been the case for 105'07. I was still willing to hold on to it though and continue to see how you guys progressed working together with new friends or friends-to-be, and than we (the mentors) just couldn't take it anymore. Tsui Yan was already very tired, fouling her mood even more. I hope you guys still remember what Nicole and I said and the message i intended for in the video.
CCA Selection the next day, i learnt about what you guys were interested in. During the Little Red Dot, i saw what you guys could do when working together and i was extremely proud of youg uys despite not having won. With a flash, it was wednesday. I recalled myself thinking of what i could give to all of you as a present and as you guys learnt the mass dance, it hit me. I would direct my first production and give it to you guys! I made lots of videos with pictures but this would be the first that i filmed and fit together by myself. It would be my work and yours, yours to keep and mine to treasure. I quickly got to work, excitedly telling Tsui Yan and Nicole about it. After that, spending as much time as i had editing it. With another flash, it's already the campfire. I was nervous, scared that somehow, i would cock-up you guys performance.
Through this qhole orientation, i saw your class grew as one. There will be cliques, there will be conflicts, and there will definitely be love. You guys are still young and growing, unlike me and the Sec 3s, we are slowing down. I'm not saying that you guys can't stead, but don't let these matters get in between the class spirit.
101, i am very proud of you guys and i have never felt so proud to be a leader.
PS will upload de video soon and rmb must invite me to SRR if you guys win!!! JY!
Your Mentor,
Colin Huang
